Summer programming is a vital component of the school year at CJA. While all incoming 5th-grade and rising 6th-grade students remain at CJA for the six-week summer term, many rising 7th and 8th graders have access to outside programs.
These outside opportunities include academic and enrichment programs like Northwestern University’s Center for Talent Development, Dominican University’s Summer Literacy Academy and High Jump. In addition, some students attend summer camps like Camp Moosilauke in New Hampshire, Camp Tecumseh in Indiana and Red Arrow Camp in Wisconsin.
In an effort to offer our students even more varied summer experiences, since 2013, CJA has hosted the Chicago College Prep Summer Program (CCPSP) which serves as a five-week enrichment program for middle school boys and girls from modest economic means on Chicago’s West Side. Some CJA students as well as students from other nearby schools participate in this program with the goal of providing the opportunity to improve academic achievement, to participate in enriching extracurricular activities and to explore college prep high school options.
