Alumnus Takes on New York City

Marvin Gibson: CJA Class of 2017

Marvin Gibson, a rising junior at DePaul University, interned at Societe Generale in New York City for ten weeks during the summer of 2023. During his internship he worked on consoldating pitch books and equity market perspectives and creating public information books to inform Directors about the companies and the industries that that they operate in. He learned a lot and his summer culminated with a pitch to firm leadership asking for a return offer. He received an intenship offer for next summer and looks forward to returning to New York in June of 2024.

Living in New York was an eye-opening experience and Marvin had the opportunity to explore everything that New York has to offer. He most enjoyed that you can be your true authentic self and he also loved the sightseeing. He spent his free time riding the ferries to Staten Island, walking the Brooklyn Bridge, visiting the Empire State Building, riding roller coasters at Coney Island and even attending a Yankee’s Game.

Marvin would like to be an investment banker and this internship cemented that decision. Societe Generale has a welcoming culture that fosters growth and collaboration. The experience challenged him to be the best version of himself. The mentors that he connected with around the firm contributed to helping him surpass his limits and he cannot wait to go back.
