In order to best support our alumni as they transition from CJA to high school, or high school to college, the College-Persistence Team holds week-long workshops for our recent 8th-grade or high school graduates.
High School Bridge Workshop
This one-week seminar takes place in late July and focuses on preparing our most recent 8th-grade graduates for high school. The seminar includes goal setting as well as discussions on course selection, extracurricular activities, identifying resources on campus and building strong study skills and strategies. Current CJA alumni who are already in high school and college also serve as guest speakers to share their own successes and challenges in high school.
College Bridge Workshop
This one-day seminar in August is for all alumni who are engaged in CJA’s College-Persistence Programming and will matriculate to college in the fall. Throughout the seminar, our alumni research the individual college or university that they are planning to attend and map out resources that are available on campus. There are also discussions on dorm life and technology use as well as budgeting and financial literacy. At the close of the seminar, each alum receives a care package including a personal laptop generously donated by CJA’s Junior Board.
