As a full-scholarship middle school, Chicago Jesuit Academy depends on the dedication of many volunteers to help care for our students. Please contact our volunteer coordinator, Terese Hagerty, at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn about specific volunteer opportunities at Chicago Jesuit Academy.
Chicago Jesuit Academy’s tutoring program helps our students benefit from one-on-one and small-group learning. Volunteers generally commit between 1 and 3 hours to help tutor CJA students throughout the day.
Other Volunteering Opportunities
In addition to our formal tutoring programs, we are always looking for volunteers to help in various areas of the school. If you have time to offer, we can most likely find a volunteer opportunity that will match your interests and help our students.
To begin volunteering at CJA, the following need to be completed:
- Virtus Training: Sponsored by the Office for the Protection of Children and Youth, the mission of this training is to promote and protect the dignity of children. All employees and all volunteers who work with children must attend this training program within three months of beginning employment, ministry, or service. To attend a Virtus training session, visit www.virtusonline.org and sign up for an account and a session to attend. Please be sure to retain the Certificate of Attendance received at the Virtus training as a copy will be kept on file at Chicago Jesuit Academy.
- Archdiocese of Chicago Background Screening (online): All employees and all volunteers who work with the students must complete this online background check. No one can begin to work or volunteer unless they have completed the background check and the background check is approved. To complete the background screening, go to www.archchicago.org and click on the “Protecting Children” link on the left side of the screen. Follow the “Background Screening” link and select “Chicago Jesuit Academy” as the site. The access code is “protection”.
- Code of Conduct: After you have read the three-page Code of Conduct, please sign the Code of Conduct Acknowledgment form for all employees and volunteers. Please contact Terese Hagerty at email@example.com for this form.
- Authorization for Background Check: Complete the Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System (CANTS) form through the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
If you do not have access to a computer and/or a printer, you can schedule an appointment before your first day of volunteer service with Terese Hagerty to complete the forms at the school.
