Ivy

Class of 2029

What’s it like being a third grader?

It’s good! We learn different things every day.

What’s your favorite subject?

My favorite subject is Humanities because I love reading. And soccer. What I like about reading is that I get to learn new words and big words that I didn’t know before. My favorite book is Besties. It’s about two girls that are friends in high school.

What do you like about soccer?

What I like about soccer is you get to have fun and every single day you can train.

Do you have family at CJA?

Yes – my brother. He’s in fourth grade. We see each other at lunch. We do a silent wave because we have to move quickly, and we’re supposed to be quiet during transitions between classes.

Why do you think it’s important that we welcomed girls to CJA last year?

It’s important that there are both girls and boys at CJA so that everyone can have more friends and be included.

What is something you have learned from a social worker during Social Emotional Learning class this year?

I learned that if you get frustrated, breathe to calm down. She taught us five-finger breathing, which is really helpful. When you feel frustrated, you put your hand up and start tracing your five fingers. You breathe in on the way to the top of your finger and breathe out from the top of your finger to your palm. Then, you repeat it for your whole hand, and you feel better.

What do you love the most about CJA?

We learn new things, and also we can have fun!

What do you like to do when you are not at school?

I like to go to the park. Sometimes, when it’s a really hot day, I like to get a cold, iced drink. My favorite flavors are blue raspberry and cherry Slushies. When you mix the blue and red it makes purple, which is my favorite color.

What are you grateful for?

I’m grateful that I have everything that I need, like food and my family. My family takes care of me well and makes sure that I am healthy and can go to school to learn.

What makes you happy?

One thing that makes me happy is that I can have fun with my family and my pets. I have a dog and a cat. The dog’s name is Lucas. The cat’s a boy too, and his name is Jasper. Mostly my dad and I take care of them.

What co-curricular are you doing?

Performing Arts Club. We get to do plays, play games and read scripts. I like that we act it out and make a stage.

Is there a favorite character you acted out?

My favorite character in a script is called Alex. I really like the name because you can make a song out of it.

What is your favorite grad-at-grad value?

Loving. You want to be kind to others, and that means you get to have more friends. You want to help other people because that’s important and right.
