What do you think is special about being a girl at CJA?
It doesn’t matter what gender you are – we get to have the same things. We use the same rules, and that is good!
Math because it’s really easy for me. I like Reading too. I am on a really hard Reading level, so it gets really tough. Sometimes, I don’t want to do it, but I push myself to do it. Then I say to myself, this is getting much easier now!
I’m really grateful because we never had Art class before. I was hoping it would happen this year, and it did! Right now, we are doing comics, and that’s my favorite. I love to draw, and I really like to write the stories for the comics.
I’m really excited about this project. We’re going to choose someone whose work had a special impact on the world. I chose Diane Nash. She was a really good activist who worked in Nashville. I like that she protested against segregation, and she never gave up. She reminds me to never give up!
I like to play with my dogs. One of our dogs is pregnant, and she likes to sleep a lot in her tiny bed, so I play with my other dogs. I like arts and crafts, too – I do projects. I made a cat mask, and I am decorating it at home.
They accept all people. My last school was hard for me because all of the students were Latino like me, but I am not fluent in Spanish. I like that there are so many different kinds of people here.
Every week, Ms. Hoesterey has me and a group of other Latina girls come to her office and hang out. We just relax and get to play in her office. We draw, and we get to play with the toys. It’s really fun!
I am grateful that we have time to eat here. I am thankful we have an afternoon snack. In my old school, we didn’t have an afternoon snack. I would be starving and tired when I got home from school!
My favorite grad-at-grad value is loving because I don’t want to see people mad at each other. It’s a tough feeling. The social workers work with us to slow down and forgive each other. Sometimes people get mad at each other, but then they realize maybe it wasn’t that big of a deal. We should forgive each other.
They respect you here. They give you the work that you need to work on and not the things that you already know. I like that they push me.
